Femme Form is a group exhibition dedicated to exploring the multifaceted representation of the female form and the power of the feminine perspective in art. From ancient sculptures to contemporary installations, the female form has been a cornerstone of artistic expression, symbolizing beauty, strength, and resilience. This show invites artists to engage with this enduring subject, not only through depictions of the body but also through works that embody the feminine experience and lens. By doing so, Femme Form celebrates the diversity of stories and interpretations that women and allies bring to the arts.
The history of women in the arts is as rich as it is complex. For centuries, women were excluded from formal training and major institutions, yet they persisted, creating works that redefined cultural and aesthetic boundaries. During the Renaissance, female artists like Artemisia Gentileschi used their talents to subvert traditional narratives, and in the modern era, figures such as Georgia O'Keeffe, Frida Kahlo, and the abstract expressionists of the 20th century broke new ground. These artists not only celebrated the female form but also expressed personal, political, and social themes through their work. Femme Form takes place during Women’s History Month, creating a platform to honor this legacy while encouraging contemporary artists to build upon it.
As you consider applying to this exhibition, reflect on how your work engages with the themes of femininity, identity, and empowerment. Whether through classical depictions of the body, abstract explorations of emotion, or pieces inspired by personal or cultural narratives, this is an opportunity to contribute to the ongoing dialogue around the feminine in art. How can your work honor the trailblazing women who came before while paving new paths for the future? Femme Form invites you to celebrate the strength, beauty, and complexity of the feminine form and perspective in all its manifestations.
We invite emerging and established artists to submit works in any medium, including:
